the moi-moi memoirs

belated haberdei anchit!22 years old na ang aking paboritong roommate(kasi naman hanggang hi,hello lang ako sa dalawa ko pang roommate nung college noh).
when people who knew both anchit and me first heard that we were gonna be bedmates, they were laughing.
"sino si frances sepulveda?"tanong ko.
"ah si anchit.roommates kayo?"sabay tawa ang mga loka.
"basta frances daw,"sabi ko and being clueless, i just watched them with eyebrows raised questioningly.
"antangkad-tangkad nun, tapos ikaw anliit-liit mo.para kayong david and goliath."
and that pretty much sums up how anchit and i were during college.para kaming freak show, kakaiba and entertaining.pati si ate gigi, ang guard sa eliazo, tumatawa 'pag nakikita kaming magkasama.
nung una, tatlo pa kami, si anchit, si irene tsaka ako.at least then, there was art, parang ikebana, heaven, man and earth.nung matangay na si irene ng panginoon ng mga bading aka ang kanyang lovey-dudes na si gaylord(yes, i'm still thinking the same thing - "who would name their kids gaylord?")so it was down to anchit and me. there were intervals when we drifted apart, growing pains. good thing we outgrew them. the longest time when we didn't hang around that much was the time when i was at my stupidest.in-love kuno kasi e.boys leave but friends remain, that we know.i guess that's why we still go out and put boys on top of our priority list because we know our friends will understand, will still be there.one of the more important lessons i learned in college(thanks, anchit).
most of the more hilarious misadventures i had in college were linked with anchit which makes me think na siya ang sanhi ng lahat ng malas sa buhay ko.hehe.there was a time when chatting became the in thing in the dorm right after the internet connection was put up.out of boredom, i joined a chatroom, pretending to be anchit. one really desperate guy started making "the moves" and after exchanging a few lines, i gave him the local number to our wing.and surprise, surprise, after a few minutes the phone outside our door rang and someone knocked, looking for anchit because she had a call. after she went out, i pretended to have to go to the bathroom and when i passed by her talking on the phone, she sounded surprised and disgusted.i had to stiffle my giggles all the way from our room and back.when she got back, she had this bewildered look and said some weird guy who sounded like some security guard from a sleazy porn film was on the phone.i almost laughed again.but i innocently asked if she didn't know him.she vehemently denied chatting with anyone or giving our number in the dorm for that matter.of course, anchit didn't find out about that until our senior year.she vowed to get back at me for that, but she never did.
the other mean thing i did to anchit was her distorted birthday surprise during our sophomore year.it was customary in the dorm to surprise someone at exactly 12 midnight.people would suddenly burst in your room with cakes and balloons.i figured, where's the surprise when you already knew there was gonna be a surprise?
so i told all our other dormmates not to greet anchit and to pretend to forget that it was her birthday.it started as a really horrible joke because mel, another one of our dormmates has the same birthday as anchit.so while everyone else was springing a surprise on mel and greeting her, veeryone ignored anchit. in the room, we all pretended to be studying or doing something else when the clock struck 12.of course, we can sense the uneasiness in the air especially when people started calling us to prepare the surprise for mel.
afterwards, i pretended to sleep while anchit was on the phone with her mom, crying because everyone seemed to have forgotten her birthday.to make things worst, mel, came in the room, greeted anchit and gave her a slice from her cake.it must have sent anchit to the edge, because i heard her say "tayo na lang mag-greet sa isa't isa mel."at that time, i almost wanted to call off the surprise and just greet her especially when she sounded so forlorn and tearful. the other girls were also beginning to feel guilty because anchit already felt bad.
but we more than made up for it the next day.we had to wake up really early to prepare the streamers, balloons and the cakes for anchit.needless to say, anchit was surprised (for real) and she cried (again!) pero this time because she was happy.:)
(to be continued...)
