post-wedding post
i attended a friend's wedding last saturday and it was the most touching wedding i've ever been to, perhaps because i know the couple well and have seen their relationship grow through the years. early on in their relationship, you could see that they make each other happy, that they suit each other perfectly, you could not find a better fit. and everyone knew it was no longer a question if they would end up with each other but when.
and if you were there during the wedding, you would smile too when you see them beaming radiantly at each other, and without words you know they're not only happy but contented and at peace.
some of my friends slept over after the wedding and during our extended round sans-table discussion, we talked about the qualities of people we'd like to end up with. i said i want someone i can talk to and laugh with about anything. if we can discuss anything from politics to philosophy to gregor samsa's alter ego to rules of suitability and still manage to trade jokes then i believe, we can grow old without outgrowing each other. there's nothing like letting out a good, hearty laugh and sharing it with someone who has a similar sense of humor makes the whole experience more enjoyable. i should know.

in the same conversation, i found out that this girl from my old office was telling her boyfriend that my friends and i have a crush on her boyfriend. this isn't the first time that i've heard her spread distorted versions of the truth - alternate realities which always place her in a stellar and pivotal role.last time, she told a new batch of employees that our group was told to stop in the middle of our presentation because we were wrong. later on we find out from her other groupmate that it was their group who was told to stop in the middle of their presentation.
anyway, her buhat-bangko tendencies seemed to have rubbed off on her boyfriend because now, as he told one of our guy friends, he is avoiding us because we have a crush on him and his girlfriend might get jealous. it's bad enough that he actually believed that we could find him the least bit attractive but to actually spread the rumor to other people? the nerve! we've never even mentioned his name in the same sentence as crush, cute or kilig because these are concepts completely unparallel with the being that he is. we have, out of lack of better things to say, refrained from saying anything bad against him or her for that matter. but this delusional tendencies are simply begging for a frank and brutal appraisal if only to jolt them back to their senses and reality.
my friends and i have been vocal about having a crush on #1 guy and he never, not even once, repeated this fact to anyone when he had every chance to. and this guy, this guy who reminds me of a lizard who we never notice until he makes a sound, has the nerve to say "he's avoiding us because his girlfriend knows we like him and she might get jealous." oi. go get yourself a mirror, boy. and get one for your girlfriend as well. so you can both see yourselves as you really are.
had i known about this earlier, i should've interrupted the girl when she was telling their love story. i overheard her saying that the guy was asking her tips on how to ask out a girl and she laughs saying, "silly me, i didn't know it was me he was going to ask out." i should've told her,"well, you should've known he was going to ask you out. everyone else he was asking out was saying no and you were sure to say yes, of course any desperate person would ask you out." i don't know how she could've missed mentioning that before her boyfriend asked her, he asked my friend first. it's a good thing my friend had the sense to say no. in terms you would understand, if you were a conditional statement, you would be the else part that the guy defaults to because he has not made the cut for the previous else-if statements.get it?
so if you chair-lifters(a.k.a. buhat-bangko) need some delusion to justify your existence, can you please not drag us into the twisted reality that you've created? because while you are far detached from the world as it is, we aren't and we'd like to maintain a semblance of dignity and normalcy. and past experiences have proven, as well as your fabricated tales, that any association with you will do us more harm than good.
oh and p.s., you don't have to announce to the whole world that you'd rather be comfortable than fashionable. who ever said it had to be one or the other? personally, i think it's a defense mechanism and a desperate attempt at self-preservation for people who know they neither have the sense to pick clothes that would make them look good nor the ability to pull off any dress they put on by acting as if their kabaduyan is a choice and not by lack of it. please, let's call a glass a glass, let baduy be baduy, and panget be panget.
